District Rules & Information

Water Usage Rules

The District allows 7 us gallons per minute per acre for properties with irrigation connections. 

Domestic users are allowed to water a small garden and/or lawn area, usage not to exceed 7 us gallons per minute. (two 1/2" impact sprinklers or equivalent)

Our water is not metered at the point of use, please water responsibly. 

Irrigation 

Irrigation season starts around April 15th and ends around October 15th. Exact dates of start up and shut down are dependent upon the weather. 

It is up to the owners to maintain their irrigation equipment, leaks waste water.

Regular maintenance of wheel lines and travelling guns, etc. helps conserve water and provides more uniform water distribution for crops.

System Maintenance Access

The Grand Forks Irrigation District reserves a permanent right-of-way for all distribution infrastructure. Property owners must ensure clear access to valves, standpipes and hydrants. Unauthorized modification of District infrastructure is subject to immediate penalty and service suspension.

District Funding

The Grand Forks Irrigation District is 100 percent user funded (with the sole exception of the weekly water testing).
